Whether you consider yourself stylish or not, ultimately you want to live in a place where you can relax and enjoy your home. In home decorating, an important task is clearing your space. Whether you prefer an uncluttered sparse living area, or a trendy up-to-the-minute loft-style space, you will want to create a place in your home that is your very own. It is not difficult to create the perfect atmosphere for you; one that reflects your unique personality. When you live in a space that allows you to be yourself, you are much more relaxed and at peace with your life and the world around you.
No matter what is going on outside your home, you will enjoy staying in and relaxing with beautiful music, interesting books, lovely artifacts, and your favorite colors and fabrics around you.
Part of the fun of choosing a style is selecting the type of material and colors you will have for your curtains, throw pillows, bedspreads, and throw rugs. You can choose light or dark colors, plain or print fabrics, and you can even choose whether you want silk or linen material.
If you live in an area with specific seasons, it is fun to change colors and materials for an easy refreshing update a couple times a year. Even lampshades are easy to update for a different look depending on the season.
When you prepare to change or update your space, take a couple of hours, if necessary, and clear out unwanted or unneeded items. If you anticipate using them again another season, place them in a safe storage area.
However, if you do not want to use the items again, box them up and take them to the local second hand store or throw them out if they are unusable.
If you are able, have a garage sale or sell them at a second hand outlet. You can use the money to buy new items. That way, someone else will get to use your treasure and you will have new pieces to place around your updated space.
Now that you have cleaned out your space, sold, traded, or thrown out unwanted items, and decided how you want to update your home, you can begin to decorate with an open mind.
